Blue Spire Law

Service Journey for Brand and Marketing

Every product or service has it’s own journey. In the beginning there is an idea. Clients and businesses have this idea of what their product or service represents. As a leader or designer, it’s my job to help give a voice to that idea. In the case of Blue Spire Law PLLC, the client had an idea that he would like to convey protecting his clients through the rule of law. He wanted to show a tower that was guarded by a dragon in order to quickly convey to current and potential clients that he would be that protection for their property assets. Below is a collection of designs submitted in order to garner feedback on what direction he felt was best for his clients.

Logo Idea Sketch

Though Process

From the sketch submitted by the client, I transformed the drawing into a dragon and spire. I used a serif font as this would work well with printed items as this would lend itself well to printed items such as legal paperwork, cards, briefs, headers, banners and more.

I drew an eastern style dragon so as to be able to wrap it’s body around the spire easily without a cumbersome bulky body and legs. I created a variance of style. One, I strictly used the dragon as a dragon around the spire as the base and added the business name around the object with a selection of choices. As a second option, I used the dragon’s body to create the S within Blue Spire Law to incorporate the design as part of the verbiage.

After logo design submission, my client wanted the dragon to be more of a cartoon illustration that could be used as a mascot for communication through social media posts as well as a quickly recognizable company figure.

The dragon AKA “Buster” is a success! My client loves the dragon and we were able to discuss and focus on the rook spire. Instead of a rook, we discussed a taller spire shape without the chess top where the logo would elongate to a taller spire with spire attributes at the top.

From here I worked with the shapes to see if we wanted to use the verbiage around the logo or incorporate the verbiage into the logo.

A quick discussion and the rook design was back in play. I’ve altered the top of the rook spire in the figure below.

For the next options, we opted to create new rook tops for variations on the theme.

My client had time to work through whether his first design was the one he wanted. With much thought and input, he decided to go a different route. The focus is now on the spire as a building with a modern twist.
